Perhaps it’s because Stockholm is surrounded by water and nature reserves that it embodies the spirit of lagom (rough translation: ‘in balance’ or ‘just right’). Any signs of inner-city madness or urban sprawl evident in other capital cities are countered by the Baltic sea lapping its 14 islands, and its hundreds of mood-boosting green spaces. This is a civilised city where devouring baked pastry goods is as valued as going for a dip in the gin-clear water of its archipelago.
Unsurprisingly, this spirit of balanced living and good judgment extends to the interiors of the city’s apartments.
