The month of midwinter has its trials and tribulations for sure, yet at its heart is a sense of goodwill, whether that's expressed by making gifts, helping people gather together, giving to charities or sharing good food. Finding the fun stuff works, too; board games, fancy dress and the sheer anything goes-ness of Boxing Day. Maybe a stroll through quiet city streets or a country yomp on a frosty morning. And when we leave December and another year behind us, we can toast in the new one with hope, dreams and a tipple or two.
