BEING THE LAST ONE TO BED ON CHRISTMAS EVE

There’s a sense of anticipation the night before Christmas – and not just for children. The solstice is past and the new year beckons. It feels like a good time to look back, count blessings and appreciate what we have. Some of us find space to reflect at church, in the rituals of a traditional service. The bonhomie that follows Midnight Mass is not just down to shared mince pies and mulled wine. Others simply light a candle and take a moment to watch the flame flutter, or sit by the tree with just the glow of a fire.
