IN A WORLD THAT CAN FEEL INCREASINGLY UNIFORM, WE’RE CELEBRATING THOSE HAPPILY DOING THINGS a bit differently. Meet the PEOPLE WHO ARE seriously PASSIONATE a bout their pastimes. PERHAPS THEY’LL PERSUADE YOU TO TRY something NEW? Middle aged women bobbing about in water to music might be expected at your local aqua-aerobics class, but less so in the River Thames or Bristol Harbour. Almost Synchro, a group of 20 Bristol-based synchronised swimmers, perform in all weather, all bodies of water and are now all over billboards on the Paris Metro promoting the 2024 Paris Olympics. The women, mostly in their 50s, meet several times a week at locations near Bristol, including the brightly coloured Portishead Lido.
