Sadie was 16 months old when we rescued her, and I was 16. Born on a farm, she was heading for a fate that isn’t worth thinking about. Then, suddenly, she had a cosy bed under our stairs and a family that doted on her. She was very easy to love with black patches over her eyes, a gentle soul and the softest velveteen ears I’ve ever known. She would wait for me and my siblings to get off the school bus, her paws up on our garden wall, nose poking over the top of it.
