The collector community operates on many different levels; think of them as leisure-time athletes. There are fun-runner collectors, never knowingly leaving a tourist attraction gift shop without picking up a badge. Above them, the collector-as-club-athlete, boasting finely honed ‘mouse fingers’ to put in the hard yards on eBay, determined their collection should be all it can be. Finally, there are the Olympics-level collectors, travelling the globe to attend international gatherings, the better to add to collections running into the tens of thousands, fit to be turned into museums. Markus Osterwalder is, in every sense, an Olympian collector. This May, he was following his pursuit in Gothenburg.
