CONSIDER LOCATION: Wet sand makes for the sturdiest castles. Build near the tideline to save on trips to collect water. MAKE IT UP-AND-COMING: Create a wide base to build on. Use buckets to create towers and add layers of wet sand by hand. Shape and compress the sand as you go. AVOID A DODGY BUILD: Whacking the bucket with a spade to get the sand out makes for shaky foundations. Try a bucket with a hole in its base instead and give the bucket a gentle jiggle as you take it off. And lose the moat. It’ll undermine the foundations.
