For a few shorts weeks, if we’re lucky, it feels like the Med here and I couldn’t feel less like going away on holiday as the garden really delivers on the promises of the rest of the year. August is all about fruit. The trees are hung with plums, peaches, nectarines and figs and the first apples and beans are in full swing. Under the polytunnel, the chillies are turning colour. My father - born in Sri Lanka - put chillies in everything. We often had curry four times a week; always on the volcanic side…
