KITE FLYING

If you’re taken with the urge to go fly a kite, the prime bit of kit needed, unsurprisingly, is a kite. A diamond or delta (triangular shape) with a single line is good for beginners. A tail can help with launching, as can another person. Spare line, spool and kite clip (how the kite fastens to the line) are handy, too. Gloves are useful, and dress for the weather, whether sunglasses or cosy layers. Then it’s about conditions: ideally winds of about 8 to 15mph and as much open space as possible – avoiding trees, power-lines, airports, roads and railways. Then let it soar.…
