This year, Bradford is the UK’s City of Culture, playing host to exhibitions, installations and events throughout 2025. One of these is a series of specially commissioned works of street art, called BD: Walls. The first in the series, The Portal, celebrates lace making – a part of the city's textile history. NeSpoon, a Polish artist who specialises in large-scale reproductions of historic designs, took her inspiration from a lace pattern she discovered in the Bradford District Museum & Galleries archives.
“The lace was made in the 1900s using a hand-needle lace technique, one of the most difficult and labour-intensive lace-making techniques,” she says.
