THINGS TO NOTE AND NOTICE Nature spot WATER VOLES The river bank is looking a bit Wind in the Willows at this time of year, and you might just spot a water vole, made famous by Willows favourite, Ratty. (Yes, in fact, Ratty was not a rat but a water vole, so now you know). What? We'll leave this to Kenneth Grahame: “A brown little face, with whiskers. A grave round face, with the same twinkle in its eye that had first attracted his notice. Small neat ears and thick silky hair. It was the Water Rat!” Where? Close to still or slowly moving water.
