Farewell to the Subway’s Metro Cammell stalwarts

Last trains in service from the fleet introduced in 1980 work their final circuits of the Glasgow system, having each covered around 2.6 million miles.

AFTER over four decades of service, during which they are each estimated to have covered around 2.6 million miles (the equivalent of 400,600 loops of the system), the final two Metro-Cammell-built Glasgow Subway sets worked their last passenger duties on June 28. Car Nos. 119, 203 and 103 formed the final Outer Circle train of the old stock, entering traffic at 13.40 and leaving service at 17.14. Nos. 106, 207 and 120, which ran on the Inner Circle from 13.45, brought the curtain down on the 44-year reign of the Birmingham-built units, when they went out of service at 17.24.
