More downtime planned for Island Line services

Further maintenance blockades required on Isle of Wight national network route.

ESSENTIAL maintenance is to close the 8½ mile long Island Line, which will be followed by a nine-month long closure of the Ryde Pier Head section of the line. As reported in the July issue (p15), replacing the track and providing new trains on what is a short line, has proved anything but straightforward. News of the latest closure was released to the public two days after the July issue went to press. Network Rail has confirmed the line will close in its entirety from September 6 to October 6, for the maintenance which will include track and bridge renewals between Ryde St Johns Road and Ryde Pier Head, renovations to a historic footbridge at Brading, signalling works at Ryde and bridge repairs in Sandown.
