Tours to mark Golden anniversary of Drax
FIFTY years of electricity generation by Drax power station is to be marked over the weekend of August 17/18, when the Branch Line Society (BLS) has organised a series of special trains. The Society has planned a number of charity trains which will visit goods lines and branches, with others making circuits of the power station’s rail network. Proceeds from the trains on both days will be donated to Martin House Hospice at Boston Spa. Starting from Derby on August 17, a GBRf Class 69 will haul the‘Cooling Tower Choppers’on a one-way excursion from Derby (08.52) to Leicester (09.27), where a pair of Locomotive Services Class 20s will be attached.
