Gearing up for gala season

Visiting locos set to provide variety at a host of heritage line enthusiast events.

WITH the end of the peak summer operating period on the horizon, several heritage railway venues are preparing themselves for the traditional autumn gala season. Two visiting main line steam locos are to be among the attractions at the Pontypool & Blaenavon Railway’s September 13-15 Annual Steam Gala. Bodmin Railway’s GWR ‘4575’2-6-2T No. 5552 is due to operate alongside the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway’s BR ‘2MT’No. 41241. They will be joined by three resident locos – Hunslet 0-6-0ST Jessie and Hudswell Clarke 0-6-0T No. 1857 and Barclay 0-4-0ST‘Caledonian Works’. An extensive passenger timetable will be supplemented by the demonstration coal train in operation, plus static locomotive displays in the car park, and driver for a tenner.
