HOPE cement works owner and operator Breedon Group has contracted VTG Rail UK to supply 54 new JPA hoppers. Feldbinder, Germany will build the wagons, with delivery due to start in January next year.They will replace the existing PCA fleet, dating from the 1980s, carrying bulk cement from Earles sidings (Derbyshire) to terminals at Dewsbury and Walsall. Notably these wagons are amongst the last to operate on the mainline employing GWR-era‘Instanter’three-link loose couplings. Two existing fleets are being retrofitted with VTG’s novel iWagon railcar telematics: 20 JPA-F wagons previously operated by Colas from Oxwellmains; and 30 JGA-M Tarmac CRH cement hoppers The JPA-Fs (Nos. 39 70 9316 001-8 to 020-8, design code JP 008A) date from 2016 and are also being refurbished, after which they will begin carrying alumina powder…
