Only HVO for locos hauling GBRf’s Drax biomass services

Operator and customer sign 12-month agreement to use hydro-treated vegetable oil to fuel motive power working the trains.

ALL of GB Railfreight’s services supplying biomass pellets to Drax Power Station in North Yorkshire from the Port of Liverpool and Port of Tyne this year will be hauled by locomotives running solely on hydro-treated vegetable oil (HVO). The companies have signed a 12-month agreement for the exclusive use of HVO, which is derived from waste vegetable oils and animal fats.
