Heavyweight Type 3 back at GCR as overhaul continues

A return to traffic for the Heavy Tractor Group’s No. 37714 is expected soon.

GREAT Central Railway-based ‘heavyweight’Class 37, No. 37714 Cardiff Canton has returned to the line following work by Loram to keep the popular engine in operation. The work saw No. 37714 lifted off its bogies to receive new bogie bushes and new traction motor bush boxes, together with a full repaint into BR Trainload Sector Metals colours. The‘37’was returned on March 12 with a return to service anticipated soon. The railway has also said that Class 27, No. 27056, which has been out of traffic for nine years, is expected to return following an overhaul and extensive bodywork repairs, with its first appearance being at the autumn diesel gala.
