Easter target for completion of tramway engineering work at Beamish

Track replacement and repairs to rails and overhead lines are among the tasks being carried out.

BEAMISH Museum in County Durham has an Easter target for the completion of track replacement work and repairs to its tramway, which began during the winter closure period. The museum’s season entered full swing with 09.00-17.00 daily opening from March 31 (until October 24), but there has been plenty to keep in-house engineering teams and contractors busy. At the eastern end of the 1900s Town, the road surface was removed to expose the rails and their concrete beams, allowing the track to be removed. The beams were cleaned and anchor points repaired before new sections of rail (shaped for the curve using a hydraulic bender) were put into place.
