Mayflower fills in for Tornado at ELR gala

‘A1’visit postponed while it prepares for 2025 main line runs.

DESPITE a successful day of test runs at the Nene Valley Railway on February 26,‘A1’ Pacific No. 60163 Tornado pulled out of the East Lancashire Railway’s Legends Of Steam II weekend on March 14-16 The new-build 4-6-2 ran under its own steam to Carnforth on March 7, in preparation for mainline testing. However, due to time constraints, this led owners, the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust, to make the difficult decision to postpone the visit to the ELR. “This is not something we do lightly, especially after such a long time out of operation, but it is important that we ensure Tornado is properly tested and available for the 2025 season, and is operated with confidence,”said a statement on the A1SLT’s website.“We are making arrangements with the ELR to agree dates…
