Civil engineering completed at Long Itchington Wood

CIVIL engineering work on Long Itchington Wood Tunnel in Warwickshire has been finished, making it the first deep tunnel on HS2 to reach such a stage of readiness. Ahead of the installation of overhead line infrastructure, track and signalling, finishing work has been carried out to base slabs, three cross passages and emergency and maintenance walkways in the mile-long twin-bore structure, which runs 30 metres (98 feet) below ancient woodland. In total, 380 people have been involved in its construction over the last five years, which included the use of tunnel boring machine Dorothy between December 2021 and March 2023, to excavate both of its bores.…
