As one of the 20 founder member teams of the inaugural Welsh League for the 1992-93 season, they had remained in the top flight for 31 seasons. Only Newtown, who are also facing relegation, have joined them in every season in the top tier.
“I’m devastated, I’m gutted and I’m hurting. That’s a game we should never have lost,” said manager Antonio Corbisiero.
“We created more chances than we done for a while and we should have been three or four goals up. They played well but I thought we dealt with what they threw at us pretty well.”
Newtown also went down, 3-2 at home against Connah’s Quay Nomads, and now face a battle for their survival over the final three matches. The damage was done when Rhys Hughes fired home a penalty in the 20th minute for the Nomads and then Jack Kenny added a second.
The Robins got back into the game through Desean Martin. Ben Nash made it 3-1 to the visitors before Jason Oswell cut the lead back to a single goal.
Barry Town United saw their lead cut to two points after a penalty from Joshua Jones earned Flint Town United a 3-2.
