We all have our own preferences when it comes to photographing the landscape, but if we’re selling our work, what we need to determine are the preferences of our customers. What sort of photographs do they want to buy – and why? Landscape photographs are usually purchased because of a connection between the buyer and the subject. The location could bring back memories, or it could be so generic it creates an emotion. Many landscape photographers establish themselves in tourist destinations so they can appeal to the transitory market, but they find themselves selling plain, postcard style images, rather than the emotive, arty photographs they like to capture personally.
