A common challenge for landscape photographers is ensuring an exposure balance between the darker landscape and the brighter sky. While some photographers use graduated neutral density filters to control the difference, there are limitations when mountains or trees break the horizon line (the tops are darkened as well as the sky). For this reason, many photographers prefer to bracket their exposures while working in the field and merge the exposures in post.
However, perhaps most important is how we manage the light within our photographs. Local adjustments can be used to darken some areas and lighten others, enhancing the natural light that is already there. Think of using post-production to create a Hollywood-style light on your subject.
