Keep the camera still

It’s not worth having great kit if you don’t keep the camera stationary at the moment of exposure

Camera shake is probably the biggest killer of sharpness for landscape photographs. The more pixels you have, the more detail your sensor is capturing, and that includes camera shake – or missed focus. Step one is to use a good-quality tripod. Lightweight models are easier to carry, but won’t keep your camera still in wind. Super stable, heavyweight tripods will break your back carrying them, so again we need to compromise. There are a number of carbon fibre models on the market which I find work very well. If you press the shutter release with your finger, you risk introducing camera shake, so use a remote control or your camera’s self-timer.
