Discover the benefits of shooting in Auto mode and get inspired to step up to scene modes or manual settings as you gain some confidence

The Auto mode is the most noticeable icon on the mode dial and it’s also the most basic option. Designed for complete beginners, the Auto mode doesn’t require any input from the photographer when it comes to selecting your exposure settings, meaning your only role in the process of producing a picture is to point your Nikon at the scene and press the shutter. Many mistake the Auto mode for being the best option when it comes to taking a quick capture. Although it’s probably the most familiar, there are much better modes to select, including specific scene mode options and the Programmed Auto mode, which we’ll cover a little later on.
