Five student writers talk about the pro-Palestine protests at their schools and how their administrations have responded.

ON APRIL 30, COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY SENT in hundreds of NYPD officers to dismantle the Gaza Solidarity Encampment that students had set up on the campus and to remove the protesters who had occupied Hamilton Hall. The encampment—and the subsequent crackdown—inspired more than 200 similar protests across the country. To prevent further actions at Columbia, the university’s president, Minouche Shafik, asked the police to remain on campus until two days after graduation. Not every school administration reacted to the Gaza solidarity protests in the same way. Brown University, for example, pledged to hold a vote in the fall on divestment from companies that do business with Israel.
