Rasool dared to criticise the Trump administration in the light of recent developments in the diplomatic rift between the US and South Africa that arose after civil rights groups AfriForum and Solidarity approached Washington over the Expropriation Bill.
Many South Africans condemned the treacherous actions of the two Afrikaner groups and said that they should be charged with treason. Perhaps Rasool was riding the wave of the anti-Trump sentiment sweeping the country and many parts of the world and thought that he could criticise Trump and get away with it. But he seems to have misfired and got into a diplomatic spat with the US.
