SPUR OF THE MOMENT, I GRABBED MY KEYS and headed to the Christmas Eve service. My husband and I had just moved to Whidbey Island to expand our tool and die business to Washington State. I’d tried decorating our office, but I barely knew my new employees. I hadn’t met many neighbors either. We hadn’t settled on a church, but I hoped a nearby evening Christmas service would help me feel more at home for the holidays. As I pulled around a curve I saw a tiny fir tree pushing its way out of the asphalt. I almost missed it on the dark country road. It seemed lonely this Christmas too.
