Joy Abounds A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS. But sometimes a single word says it all. Joy, as in “Joy to the World.” This year, in lieu of our traditional cover illustration, we went with what is called a type treatment. We wanted to convey the very essence of Christmas—from the shepherds tending their flock on that midnight clear to a little child opening her first Christmas gift—in one word: joy. The empyrean joy that illuminates the darkness of the world and warms every heart it reaches. The stories in our sections reflect where joy abounds. Togetherness. When is our yearning to be with the people we love greater than now, especially after a year when many of us were bereft of this joy? Pets. How many of us include our pets…
