THE SWISS SAVED their best for last in 2024, pushing host Sweden to OT in the quarterfinal before ultimately falling short. The most likely scenario will be a repeat in Ottawa, where the Swiss really only need a victory over Kazakhstan to get into the medal-round bracket. A win over Slovakia would be nice, too, but the Swiss will almost surely face a crossover powerhouse (Canada, Finland or the U.S.) in the quarterfinal. As is the case most years, this is a low-ceiling entry, but they’re not the worst team in their pool. Switzerland’s offense was practically non-existent last year, and that needs to change if they wish to gain any traction this time.
