These players weren’t drafted last year, but they won’t be overlooked this time around

THE DRAFT IS AN imperfect science, and even NHL teams miss players who deserved to be picked. Other times, a player didn’t get the opportunity to showcase their game to earn that draft pick. Whatever the case, there’s plenty of overage talent in the 2024 NHL draft. PETTER VESTERHEIM C, Mora (Swe.2) The Norwegian center was part of a one-two punch with Michael Brandsegg-Nygard at the World Junior Championship, displaying his intelligence and playmaking ability. He seeks out pockets of space and understands how to chain plays together. GENNADI CHALY D, Sioux Falls (USHL) He’s always played like a point-producing defenseman, and the points started to come this year. Chaly’s defensive game has also improved.
