IT’S THREE DAYS BEFORE the Carolina Hurricanes complete the blockbuster acquisition of all-star right winger Mikko Rantanen – we’ll get back to that in a second – when Darren Yorke picks up the phone to talk all things picks, prospects and player development. And, to be clear, no one in the organization is more qualified to speak on the subject than Yorke, the Hurricanes’ associate GM. For more than 15 years now, Yorke has stalked the halls of Carolina’s front office. He arrived in 2010 as a video scout, rose to director of scouting in 2017, moved on to become the director of player personnel the following year and was the Hurricanes’ assistant GM for the past four seasons before earning his latest promotion in August.
