Former THN senior writer Mike Brophy is always there to provide a laugh, whether intentional or not. Now, he needs help from others as he battles for his life

BACK IN THE DAY, The Hockey News published a guide to summer hockey schools. It was an April 1 in the 1990s, and one of the advertising representatives nervously walked into editor in chief Steve Dryden’s office with a professional-looking mock-up of an ad for an enterprise called the “Fight Right Hockey School.” NHL enforcers would be the instructors, and the school would teach your Little Johnny to drop the mitts and throw haymakers. As Dryden turned about 14 different shades of crimson, he could only say, “This is a joke. This is a joke.” Then, realizing the date on the calendar, the ardent anti-fighting advocate sighed heavily and said, “This is a joke.” In the background, giggling uncontrollably, was THN’s senior writer Mike Brophy, who had orchestrated the entire scheme. ‘Broph’…
