Major junior or U.S. college? Before, it was a ‘pick one’ proposition. Now, prospects can take advantage of both routes. And teams on either side are thrilled

ON A FRIGID WINTER night in north Toronto, scouts and GMs from across the OHL packed into Scotiabank Pond to watch the Greater Toronto League’s U-16 Top Prospects Game, featuring some of the best and brightest available for the 2025 OHL draft. But they weren’t the only ones in the stands among the families and friends. Also scouting that night was Boston College assistant coach Brent Darnell, who, all of a sudden, has much more of a reason to trek across the border. That’s because the top players in the GTHL and their peers across Canada no longer have to decide between the NCAA path and major junior.
