They have the team’s new arena at Belmont Park humming in its third season, following last year’s 50th anniversary season of the franchise’s first campaign in 1972-73 and the first playoff games at UBS last spring. Most home games continue to be sold out, and Long Island fans are enthusiastic about the state-of-the-art home they have long craved. The former Harvard roommates replaced Charles Wang, who sold minority shares in the franchise to Malkin and Ledecky in 2014, and they used the next two years to learn all they could about running an NHL team.
