PREDICTION | 3RD IN METROPOLITAN AS A NEW SEASON approaches, the question lingers: did the Rangers improve enough following a disappointing first-round playoff ouster to New Jersey? Two things are clear: team president and GM Chris Drury’s major off-season move was hiring coach Peter Laviolette and a new staff to replace Gerard Gallant and crew after two seasons. And on the ice, in a league that is trending younger, the Blueshirts got deeper, but greyer, through free agency. Drury rolled the dice last season with deadline deals for wingers Vladimir Tarasenko and Patrick Kane, but the squad came up empty in Game 7.
