PREDICTION | 5TH IN METROPOLITAN THE ISLANDERS MADE THE playoffs in their second campaign at UBS Arena after missing the post-season for the first time since 2018 in 2021-22. They played admirably under first-year coach Lane Lambert, finishing 42-31-9 with a late surge before falling to Carolina in six games in the first round of the playoffs. GM Lou Lamoriello held on to his assets during free agency, giving long-term contracts to left winger Pierre Engvall, who was acquired at the deadline, and veteran defenseman Scott Mayfield, as well as keeping both goaltenders on Long Island for at least the next four seasons. Where will the Islanders finish in a division stocked with Carolina, resurgent New Jersey, plus Pittsburgh and the rival Rangers? That depends on the usual intangibles and variables. The Islanders…
