BY COREY MASISAK PREDICTION | 2ND IN CENTRAL IT WAS FRAMED AS a Stanley Cup-or-bust season from the opening day of training camp. It went bust in what felt like a blink of an eye. The Avalanche spent most of 2023-24 as a no-doubt Cup contender. Valeri Nichushkin’s suspension in the hours before a critical Game 4 in the second round against Dallas ended that. Colorado nearly dragged the Stars into a winner-take-all seventh game, but former Avs center Matt Duchene scored the series-clinching goal in double overtime of Game 6.
