OVER DINNER RECENTLY, I WAS asked by the lady on my left “What opportunities do you see in the art market today?” I demurred. She pressed, “Where would you have wanted to buy in the marketplace over the past few years?” I felt fairly sure where the question was directed, but wanted to be sure. “What’s your aim when buying art? What are you looking for in an opportunity?” I countered. Then came the dreaded ‘i’ word: “investment”.
