What does taking to the classified ads to see what can be bought as a restoration project, especially by somebody on a budget, show?

Although I have plenty of projects to keep me going, I always enjoy trolling through the classified adverts to see what’s out there. Over the years, I have noticed that they are changing. I suppose it’s inevitable, though I remember, as a teen, handing over £25 for quite a nice Francis-Barnett Plover, wheeled out of an urban garage, cheap because it was an obsolete 25-year-old ex-commuter bike. Fresh fuel and I was on the road, and a couple of year later some profit when I passed it on – lovely! Today, I’m still spotting these 25-year-old ex-commuter machines, no longer British, instead from the likes of Suzuki, Honda, Kawasaki and Yamaha and now from 1990-something not 1960-something! Opinions have already changed. I clearly remember the old-timers from when I was getting into…
