However, the club have since released a statement saying that the cup will be paraded in front of supporters on Sunday during the huge women's derby between Newcastle United and Sunderland.
The game at St James’ Park, which kicks off at 2pm, is already set to smash attendance levels for a Women's Championship fixture with around 30,000 tickets sold.
A Newcastle United statement on X said: "To celebrate the @ NUFCWomen record-breaking crowd at SJP on Sunday, the Carabao Cup trophy will be making its first public appearance at the derby. Lifted by club legend Bob Moncur and CEO Darren Eales."
Moncur, of course, was the last Newcastle captain to lift a trophy before Bruno Guimaraes, having skippered the 1969 Fairs Cup-winning side.
However, some fans have accused the club of trying to sell tickets for the women's fixture.
@Bazro10 replied on X: "Noooooooo! It shouldn't be used to sell tickets for this game, first outing should be the parade then Brentford game."
Kev Brown said: "This is a quite frankly staggering decision that can only be driven by greed to sell more tickets for the game. This isn’t a dig at the women's team, the men won, display it before the men play or when it was planned on the 29th."
