The club's place at the heart of the city centre has long been a big driver of the local economy on match days, but United's reputation on an international basis has increased since the takeover by a Saudi-led consortium and the subsequent improvement in the team's fortunes.
The possibility of a new or enlarged ground would also benefit the economy both during the construction stage, as well as from the increased capacity it will bring.
