SALLY OBERMEDER STILL grimaces when she talks about her chemotherapy. “The thing that shocked me was just how painful chemo is – it felt like my veins were trying to suck thick soup through a small straw – the chemo was being jammed into my vein for six or seven hours.” Sally also wore an “ice cap”, a freezing helmet designed to freeze hair cells and save hair, but it did not work for her. “It made me shiver and adds to the hell.” Sally endured 10 months of chemotherapy – during which all food tasted like petrol.
