A flexible camera with a high-resolution mode for your macro shots

While the Panasonic G9 may have the smallest sensor in our round-up, it is still a great choice for macro photography for a number of different reasons. The 20.3 megapixel Four Thirds sensor is very capable of producing fine detail, particularly when shooting in good light – something that you will most likely be doing when photographing macro-type subjects. More intriguing, however, is the 80-megapixel high-resolution mode, which is the perfect mode to deploy for macro shots. It works by shifting the sensor ever so slightly in between a series of exposures, and then combining the results for an ultra-high-resolution final image.
