Gabrielle Chanel was a couturier so ahead of her time that she had many firsts to her name; naturally, it should come as no surprise that the first high jewellery collection she designed in 1932 was a stellar success. The Bijoux de Diamants collection, as it came to be called, was historically the first high jewellery collection ever created, and was produced at the height of the Great Depression with the intention to bring hope and renewal to the world.
