As Gucci’s autumn-winter 2024 collection makes its way into stores this month, here’s our take on Sabato de Sarno’s sophomore womenswear showing—from ultra-chic peacoats and sparkling details to a revived heritage bag that harks back to the Fifties

In February, with a Mark Ronson mash-up of I’m Not In Love by Kelsey Lu and Two Men In Love by The Irrepressibles blasting throughout the Gucci Hub headquarters in Milan, Sabato de Sarno showed his second women’s collection. The house’s creative director wrote in his show notes: “Seek a small subversive gesture. View things from a perspective different from what is presumed most appropriate, not following the rules.” As those notes suggest, the collection sprung surprises on you from all angles. The runway was simple, sleek and silver, so all eyes were on the clothes: the opening look, a shorts suit with a neatly tailored, buttoned jacket paired with over-the-knee riding boots and a thin belt cinching the waist, exuded minimalist elegance.
