Polytechnic University fashion design graduate Vicky Tsang took the grand prize at the Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers’ Contest (YDC) in 2022, one of the most prestigious events of its kind in the region. Her collection, Exhausting A Crowd, uses 3D printing to illustrate her surrealist aesthetic through pieces that are almost more art than garment: sculpted metal corsets, and coats and trousers in exaggerated silhouettes with a liquid-metal-like texture. Tsang founded Gnastiy.com with her design partner Yidi, and has seen her designs gain global recognition—Julia Fox, known for her daring fashion sense, was photographed in one of her pieces. She sees the brand’s work as futuristic, wants to “blur the boundaries between the virtual and real worlds”, and hopes, rather sweetly, her designs will encourage people to focus more…
