The 150th Open Championship took place this July in Scotland at the revered St Andrews links, the birthplace of golf. Of the 156 contenders in this year’s four-day tournament, 20 were Rolex testimonees, as the brand’s ambassadors are known. Australian golfer Cameron Smith managed to clinch the Claret Jug (Golf Champion Trophy) in a spectacular final round. A record 290,000 spectators attended the milestone event, watching as underdog Smith tapped in the winning birdie. The massive turnout at the Old Course, along with millions of virtual spectators, is a reminder of golf’s growing international appeal—with Rolex playing an important role in the sport’s evolution.
