The Liang Yi Museum’s latest exhibition is a showcase of more than 250 objects exploring the socio-political roles of women’s fashion in China, Japan and Europe. Here are five treasures not to miss

1 REVERSE PAINTING ON GLASS A central theme of the exhibition is the cultural dialogue between East and West, and one of my favourite examples is this reverse painting on glass. These types of paintings were exported from China to the West during the 18th and 19th centuries, even though the technique itself originated from medieval Europe and was brought to China by the Jesuits visiting the court of Emperor Qianlong, who was especially fond of this art form. 2 VICTORIAN SILVER-MOUNTED LADY’S DRESSING TABLE SET We incorporated some objects from our permanent silver collection into this exhibition, and I love this Victorian silver-mounted lady’s dressing table set, made in 1862.
